I was recently in
Hangzhou for Client meetings. My first trip there for 12 years. What an incredible city. At the end of 2016 it became a
member of China's 'GDP 1 trillion RMB/Year' club - Ranking 10th out of 12 cities.
Despite amazing economic development, Hangzhou
continues to be a fabulous place to stroll around. My photo was taken a few minutes' walk from the city centre's busy restaurants
and shops, and shows the Leifeng [Literally 'Thunder Peak'] Pagoda 雷峰塔 .
Perched on Sunset Hill 夕照山, overlooking West Lake, it is built on top of the ruins of a pagoda
of the same name that collapsed in 1924 (949 years after it was erected). The new pagoda wasn't there when I first visited
Hangzhou in 1998.. so I think it's fair to say that the views across West Lake have actually got even better.
